Intaglio printing on the front carries the portrait, all the texts, the figures of the denomination, the two-colour vertical ornamental band, the coat of arms of Tajikistan, the tactile mark for the partially sighted and the facsimile signatures of the officials; offset printing carries the background grid in rainbow blending, the background image in the centre, the ornament on the right of the printed field, the see-through element and the tulip figure with the PEAK anti-copying element, and on the back all the images and inscriptions; letterpress carries the serial numbers. The paper is made of 100 per cent cotton fibre and contains colourless security fibres that luminesce red, blue and green.
The obverse shows a portrait of Shirinsho Shotemur (1899–1937), Hero of Tajikistan and statesman. The reverse shows the building of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
A banknote of the National Bank of Tajikistan, the 1999 design. The most interesting security features are a multitone watermark repeating the portrait on the note; a windowed security thread showing six metallised dashes and, against the light, a solid dark band with the repeated light text «БМТ» upright and inverted; and microprinting — on the front, microtext in Tajik giving the denomination and, on the back, the same microtext in English.
The Tajik somoni is collected by issue: the 1999 design, the diram notes of the same design and the 2017–2018 issue are different notes, each with its own security features and, for the 200 and 500 somoni, its own size. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
