Don Carlos Antonio López, the first constitutional president of Paraguay, and the López Palace: the classic design of the Paraguayan five thousand on a note of 2010, one of the last paper ones before the denomination moved to polymer. As early as 2011 the Central Bank of Paraguay issued five thousand guaraníes on a plastic substrate.
The bank explains the reason plainly: the 2000 and 5000 guaraní notes circulate faster than any others and wear out quickly, so they were moved to polymer in 2009 and 2011 respectively. The legal tender clause now refers to Law No. 489 of 29 June 1995, the organic law of the Central Bank of Paraguay.
The note closes the paper era of the five thousand: paired with the 2011 polymer note, it shows a change of material with an unchanged design. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
