The back of this 10 shilling note puts two symbols of Tanzania side by side: the Peace Monument in Arusha and the snow-capped summit of Kilimanjaro. It was issued by the Bank of Tanzania in the 1977–1978 series, where the denomination is given in Swahili, «shilingi».
The front carries a portrait of Julius Nyerere, the country’s first president, with the coat of arms and a torch, while the back adds a map of Tanzania with its islands beside the monument. Against the light a giraffe-head watermark appears; the note was printed by De La Rue in London.
Kilimanjaro and the portrait of the nation’s founder make this a piece for a topical set on mountains on banknotes and for a Tanzania collection, where the 1977–1978 series follows the country’s first notes. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
