The building on the front, the Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hasan, is one of the great monuments of Mamluk Cairo. Raised between 1356 and 1363 on the square facing the Citadel, it arranges four vast iwans around a courtyard, traditionally assigned to the four Sunni schools of law. Its construction had a dark chapter: in 1361 a minaret collapsed, killing some three hundred people, and that same year the sultan was murdered. His body was never found, so the mausoleum built for him stands empty.
The reverse pairs the Great Sphinx of Giza with hieroglyphs spelling Kemet, the ancient name of Egypt, usually rendered as "black land". An Eye of Horus on each side acts as a see-through register, its halves aligning against the light.
Arabic text dominates the front and English the back, and the notes are produced by the Central Bank of Egypt's own printing works. This 2018 note belongs to the P76 type issued from 2014, whose security features include a motion windowed thread.
Uncirculated (UNC): the note has never been in circulation.
