The Muregeya suspension footbridge on the front and schoolchildren at laptops on the back: the 500 franc note dated 1 February 2019 replaced the 2013 issue. The pupils stayed, while the cows on the front gave way to the bridge.
The note was printed by the German company Giesecke+Devrient. It is signed by Deputy Governor Monique Nsanzabaganwa and John Rwangombwa, Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda; against the light a watermark with the coat of arms of Rwanda and the letters BNR appears.
A bridge on the note makes it a piece for a topical set on bridges on banknotes, and paired with the 2013 500 francs it shows how the National Bank of Rwanda renewed the denomination while keeping the education theme. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
