The ninth-series 200-franc note replaced the eighth-series note that bore the portrait of the writer Charles Ferdinand Ramuz. The Swiss National Bank recalled the old 200 on 30 April 2021, though it still exchanges it with no time limit. The new series abandoned portraits altogether: each denomination stands for one Swiss characteristic, and the 200 was given scientific expertise.
Its key motif is matter and its main colour is brown. The least conspicuous part of the design is the security strip, which combines an abstract map of Switzerland's geological ages with a timeline of the stages in the formation of the universe. A particle detector presents the country as a research hub.
The note, P78, entered circulation on 22 August 2018 and is one of the six denominations of The many facets of Switzerland series.
Uncirculated (UNC): the note has never been in circulation.
