The 100 kwacha appeared in 1991, the last year of the presidency of Kenneth Kaunda, who had led Zambia since 1964 and peacefully handed over power after multiparty elections in November 1991. Together with the 500 kwacha of the same year, these are the highest denominations of the last series bearing his portrait.
The front shows Kaunda's portrait, the African fish eagle and the coat of arms; his portrait is repeated in the watermark. The back opens onto a view of a waterfall.
As early as 1992 the Bank of Zambia issued a new series without a presidential portrait. Old kwacha notes, this one included, were demonetised on 1 July 2013 after the redenomination.
A note from the year power changed hands and one of the two highest denominations of the last series with the first president's portrait: a key point in a Zambia collection. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
You can compare this banknote with the country’s other issues in the VPcoins catalogue.
