This is not a note of the Central Bank of Argentina but a debt bond of Tucumán province, «Bonos de Cancelación de Deudas», issued under provincial law no. 5728. It is denominated in australes, Argentina's currency of 1985–1991, and the year 1991 in the title refers to its validity: the bond expired on 30 November 1991.
The front bears the provincial coat of arms and the series C designation; the bond was printed by Argentina's Casa de Moneda. The back carries five articles of the law setting out the bond's terms, over a background of the House of Bishop Colombres, now the Museum of the Sugar Industry.
José Eusebio Colombres (1778–1859), politician and bishop, was a deputy to the Congress of Tucumán in 1816; in 1821 he founded a plantation with imported machinery and became a pioneer of the region's sugar industry. His house in the 9 de Julio Park is a National Historic Monument.
The bond adds a provincial page of monetary history to an Argentina collection of the austral era: a document of a time when provinces paid with their own paper. UNC condition means the piece has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
VPcoins is an online shop of coins and banknotes where a collector can find both the missing pieces and new directions for a collection.
