The 5,000 cruzeiros of 1990 has a deliberately plain design: only the profile of the Republic and a guilloche rosette on the front, and the national coat of arms, also framed by guilloches, on the back. No portraits or narrative scenes, just the value, the emblems of the state and a security pattern.
The note appeared in the year the cruzado novo was renamed the cruzeiro at one to one. It was printed by the Casa da Moeda do Brasil, and against the light a watermark shows the profile of the Republic.
For a Brazil collection it is a 1990 note, the counterpart to the full 5,000 cruzeiros with the composer Carlos Gomes (P232), and for a «coats of arms on banknotes» set its whole back is given to the arms. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
More banknotes from this country and this era are waiting in the VPcoins catalogue.
