Banknote 5 lati, Latvia, 2009. Belongs to the series of regular banknotes of the new lat circulation period (1993–2013), used in the country’s monetary circulation before the transition to the euro. Issued by Bank of Latvia in the early 21st century as part of the national currency series of independent Latvia.

The obverse depicts an oak — a tree symbolizing strength, stability and the nature of Latvia. The design includes a fragment of the traditional ornament of the Lielvārde belt — an important element of Latvian folk art with ancient geometric patterns. The composition is made in a national style with decorative elements and a large denomination marking. The reverse shows carved patterns on a spindle — a traditional craft object associated with fabric production, as well as the national coat of arms of Latvia. The watermark in the form of a girl’s profile serves as a security feature and is visible when held up to the light.
